Jalan satu-satunya menuju kemajuan Islam adalah dengan mempersoalkan cara kita menafsirkan agama ini. Untuk menuju ke arah itu, kita memerlukan beberapa hal.

Pertama, penafsiran Islam yang non-literal, substansial, kontekstual, dan sesuai denyut nadi peradaban manusia yang sedang dan terus berubah.

Kedua, penafsiran Islam yang dapat memisahkan mana unsur-unsur di dalamnya yang merupakan kreasi budaya setempat, dan mana yang merupakan nilai fundamental. Kita harus bisa membedakan mana ajaran dalam Islam yang merupakan pengaruh kultur Arab dan mana yang tidak.

Islam itu kontekstual, dalam pengertian, nilai-nilainya yang universal harus diterjemahkan dalam konteks tertentu, misalnya konteks Arab, Melayu, Asia Tengah, dan seterusnya. Tetapi, bentuk-bentuk Islam yang kontekstual itu hanya ekspresi budaya, dan kita tidak diwajibkan mengikutinya.

Aspek-aspek Islam yang merupakan cerminan kebudayaan Arab, misalnya, tidak usah diikuti. Contoh, soal jilbab, potong tangan, qishash, rajam, jenggot, jubah, tidak wajib diikuti, karena itu hanya ekspresi lokal partikular Islam di Arab.

Yang harus diikuti adalah nilai-nilai universal yang melandasi praktik-praktik itu. Jilbab intinya adalah mengenakan pakaian yang memenuhi standar kepantasan umum (public decency). Kepantasan umum tentu sifatnya fleksibel dan berkembang sesuai perkembangan kebudayaan manusia. Begitu seterusnya.

Ketiga, umat Islam hendaknya tidak memandang dirinya sebagai "masyarakat" atau "umat" yang terpisah dari golongan yang lain. Umat manusia adalah keluarga universal yang dipersatukan oleh kemanusiaan itu sendiri. Kemanusiaan adalah nilai yang sejalan, bukan berlawanan, dengan Islam.

Larangan kawin beda agama, dalam hal ini antara perempuan Islam dengan lelaki non-Islam, sudah tidak relevan lagi. Quran sendiri tidak pernah dengan tegas melarang itu, karena Quran menganut pandangan universal tentang martabat manusia yang sederajat, tanpa melihat perbedaan agama. Segala produk hukum Islam klasik yang membedakan antara kedudukan orang Islam dan non-Islam harus diamandemen berdasarkan prinsip kesederajatan universal dalam tataran kemanusiaan ini.

Keempat, kita membutuhkan struktur sosial yang dengan jelas memisahkan mana kekuasaan politik dan mana kekuasaan agama. Agama adalah urusan pribadi; sementara pengaturan kehidupan publik adalah sepenuhnya hasil kesepakatan masyarakat melalui prosedur demokrasi. Nilai-nilai universal agama tentu diharapkan ikut membentuk nilai-nilai publik, tetapi doktrin dan praktik peribadatan agama yang sifatnya partikular adalah urusan masing-masing agama.

Menurut saya, tidak ada yang disebut "hukum Tuhan" dalam pengertian seperti dipahami kebanyakan orang Islam. Misalnya, hukum Tuhan tentang pencurian, jual beli, pernikahan, pemerintahan, dan sebagainya. Yang ada adalah prinsip-prinsip umum yang universal yang dalam tradisi pengkajian hukum Islam klasik disebut sebagai maqashidusy syari'ah, atau tujuan umum syariat Islam.

Nilai-nilai itu adalah perlindungan atas kebebasan beragama, akal, kepemilikan, keluarga/keturunan, dan kehormatan (honor). Bagaimana nilai-nilai itu diterjemahkan dalam konteks sejarah dan sosial tertentu, itu adalah urusan manusia Muslim sendiri.

Dear Sir,

Last year I upgraded Girlfriend 1.0 to Wife 1.0. And noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing, that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. No mention of this phenomenon was included in the product brochure.

In addition, Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during system initializations, here it monitors all other system activity.

Applications such as Pokernight 10.3 and Beerbash 2.5 no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected. I can not purge Wife 1.0 from my system. I am thinking about going back to Girlfriend 1.0, but uninstall does not work on this program. Can you help me?

Dear Sir,

This is very common problem men complain about, but is mostly due to primary misconception. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 1.0 to Wife 1.0 with the idea that Wife 1.0 is merely a "UTILITIES & ENTERTAINMENT" program.
Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and designed by its creator to run everything. It's impossible to uninstall, delete, or purge the program from the system once installed. You cannot go back to Girlfriend
1.0, because Wife 1.0 is not designed to do this. Some have tried to install Girlfriend 2.0 or Wife 2.0, but end up with more problem than the original system. Look in your manual under Warnings - Alimony / Child Support.

I recommend you keep Wife 1.0 and just deal with the situation. Having Wife 1.0 installed myself, I might suggest you read the entire section regarding General Protection Faults (GPFs). You must assume all responsibility for faults and problems might occur.
The best course of action will be to push apologize button then reset button as soon as lock-up occurs. System will run smooth as long as you take the blame for all GPFs.
